  • Klis Fortress (Croatia):

    • Located on a pass between the mountains Mosor and Kozjak, it served as a major defense point against the Ottoman Empire. 

    • Its history spans over 2,000 years, from a small Illyrian stronghold to a royal castle and a large fortress during the Ottoman wars. 

    • It has been a crossroad between the Mediterranean Sea and the Balkans. 

    • Nehaj Fortress (Senj, Croatia):

      • Perched high on a hill overlooking the town of Senj and the Adriatic Sea, it is a symbol of the city's resistance against Ottoman invaders. 

      • Built in the 16th century, it served as a defensive bastion, protecting the town and resisting Ottoman invasions. 

      • It is now a museum, offering panoramic views and insights into the region's history. 

    • Grižane Castle (Croatia):

      • A ruined castle and site near Grižane in Vinodol, offering a beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea in the distance. 

      • Located on the cliff of the old medieval town of Bribir, it is part of a former medieval castle with a tower that dominates the Vinodol Valley.
